{ Hello }
Hi folks! My name is Ben Jones, and I returned to Oberlin in July 2008 to lead the college's Communications Office. My team works with almost every department on campus, and oversees web & print initiatives, media relations, and overall strategy for Oberlin's external and internal communications.
Prior to moving back to Oberlin, I spent four years working at MIT where I designed and built mitadmissions.org, the first uncensored/unedited admissions blogging community to be hosted by a college. As that site/community became increasingly popular over time, I found myself dreaming of building one for Oberlin, so that it too could share its stories exponentially in such an honest, transparent way. I'm so happy that I've finally been able to make that happen.
I'm pretty obsessed with the web and its potential, and spend more time than is healthy communicating via email, facebook, and other social networking sites. I love the concept of Web 2.0 (although I don't really like that name for it), and I enjoy working with academic and non-academic departments alike to study how interactive online initiatives might benefit them.
I grew up in Baltimore before heading to Oberlin, where I double-majored in English and Environmental Studies. I am married to the love of my life (another Obie) and we have two awesome little boys. In my spare time I love listening to, playing, and composing music, writing, reading, gardening and cooking. And my mom, of course.
